Shawnee
Home sweet home on the range.
Our story is Oklahoma’s story.
Original settlers of the city now known as Shawnee named this bustling town after the Native American tribe of the same name. As with most Oklahoma towns of the time period, the original economic driver of this settlement was agrarian, but has shifted in modern times. Oklahoma state flag designer Louise Funk Fluke, as well as author of the poem that turned into the song “Home on the Range”, lived in Shawnee. Shawnee is an integral aspect of Oklahoma history that will be celebrated and cherished for future generations.
